Position Summary

Swenson Granite Works, a division of Polycor, has an immediate opening for a 2nd Shift (evening) Supervisor. The position will be located at the AFCO Plant, which is located at 54 Willey Street, Barre, Vermont. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading 2nd shift operations and ensuring safety, production, quality, and cost objectives are being met. This role will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of total customer satisfaction by providing high quality and timely service to all internal and external customers.

This position reports directly to the Plant Manager. As a shift leader, the Production Supervisor creates an environment where employees are coached, trained, motivated and rewarded for achieving high levels of performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities other duties may be assigned

  • Provide and maintain a safe working environment for all employees, including auditing, addressing unsafe behaviors and conditions, timely reporting safety incidents and enforcing safety-related policies and procedures
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts and projects by recommending or implementing measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency
  • Establishes a culture of process discipline where manufacturing processes and procedures are understood and consistently followed by team members
  • Supervises production through effective delegation, leading shift personnel in daily operations to meet production requirements. Schedules and assigns work to regulate workflow and meet required production schedules
  • Supports ongoing training of the workforce to improve performance of safety goals, quality objectives, and on-time delivery targets
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments
  • Manages and directs plant floor activities to improve utilization of company resources, such as material and labor
  • Maintain a high degree of plant floor visibility throughout the shift
  • Maintains knowledge of processes and Ensure production workflow is efficient and optimized.
  • Collaborates with Management, Expediter and Shipping department daily

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Must have at least 2 years of directly related experience in a production environment
  • Must have at least 2 years of hands-on experience as a shop floor supervisor or in a lead role
  • Experience supervisory in a unionized would be considered an asset


  • Proficiency in MS Office Products, such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
